What’s included
Detailed Evaluation
Initially we will review your training history and health specifics, followed by an assessment of your physiology and biomechanics. For resistance training, video review of your exercises will occur throughout.
Custom Programming
From this evaluation, you will receive custom video programming and supporting education deployed to your app (resistance training) or specified timeframes and intensities deployed to your smartwatch (aerobic training).
Weekly updates
Progress will be assessed and programs will be updated to meet your needs weekly to ensure recovery, adaptation and comfort in schedule. Custom weeky video recaps explain this information in-depth.
Physiology-Led Training for the Dedicated Athlete.
Most training programs are built on guesswork or generic percentages. At Sutherly Performance, we replace "estimated" intensities with your unique physiological signatures. By combining laboratory-grade information with elite-level coaching, we build an engine that is as durable as it is efficient.
Our Coaching Philosophy: Laboratory Standards, Real-World Durability
My approach to coaching is rooted in the belief that you cannot optimize what you do not measure. This philosophy was forged in high-stakes environments and refined through personal endurance pursuits:
Clinical Foundation: Utilizing metabolic testing, lactate profiling, and biometrics (HRV, RHR) to define your specific metabolic bottlenecks.
Elite Experience: Leveraging my background as a Director of Performance in academy-level soccer to implement professional-grade periodization and injury-reduction strategies.
Athlete Tested: Drawing on my own experience as an ultra-endurance athlete in prone paddling to understand the mental and physical demands of long-range effort.
The Tech Stack & Workflow: Precision at Your Fingertips
Remote coaching should never feel distant. We use a high-level digital infrastructure to ensure every session is tracked and analyzed week to week.
The Platforms: We leverage industry-leading apps like Intervals.icu and comprehensive exercise libraries to deliver your daily programming. Your data (Power, Pace, HR, and HRV) syncs automatically for my review.
Weekly Progression: Your training is not a static PDF. It is a living program that is reviewed and progressed weekly based on your physiological response to the load.
Feedback Loop: You receive weekly video reviews of your data and movement patterns. I am available for consistent communication to adjust for life’s variables, ensuring you never feel like you’re training in a vacuum.
The Performance-Minded Athlete
This service is designed for the individual who views their body as a high-performance system. Whether you are looking to optimize your metabolic health, get safely stronger, shave minutes off your marathon PR, or simply feel more capable in your daily life, we provide the roadmap. We work with athletes who are tired of "junk miles" and are ready to commit to a structured, data-driven path to their best self.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to live in San Diego to be coached? No. While many clients start with an in-person metabolic test at my San Diego facility, I coach athletes globally. If you aren't local, we use field-testing protocols and wearable data to establish your zones.
What equipment do I need for aerobic programming? At a minimum, a smartwatch from Garmin, Suunto, Coros, Amazfit, Huawei or Apple. We also can work with Zwift programming.
What equipment do I need for resistance programming? Access to a full gym is preferred, but this is a case-by-case situation.
How often do we communicate? Weekly. You’ll receive a video breakdown of your previous week's training and a preview of what’s coming next. I am also available via messaging during business hours and you can expect responses within 24 hours during the week.
Is there a minimum commitment? Physiological adaptations take time. I typically recommend a 3-month minimum commitment to see significant shifts in your metabolic profile and aerobic capacity, but this is not required.
