Metabolic testing.

Sutherly offers four different metabolic tests to suit the need of the patient or athlete.

  1. VO2max / CPET

  2. Lactate

  3. Lactate + VO2max

  4. Comprehensive Thresholds

Below you will find specific information on each test.

  • Beginner to Advanced

This test involves 8-20min of effort, ramping up step by step until exhausion. While VO2max is a priority metric, this test also employs clinical Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET) techniques to evaluate lung function and lung strategy. This test includes heart rate zones.

Test is $175 with an option to add $25 for resting lung function analysis to then compare to exercise lung function.

  • Intermediate to advanced

This is a traditional lactate test that aims to find heart rate and pace/power of LT1 and LT2. This test involves 45-60min of running and periodic blood sampling taken from one’s ear.

    This test costs $205.

  • Advanced

This test incorporates lactate testing and VO2max (but not CPET). This is a grueling test that involves an abbreviated lactate test followed by a VO2max effort. This convenient test provides acceptable accuracy of these measures but lacks the precision of when done on their own.

    This test costs $295.

  • Pro

This test pulls out all the stops. It gathers every metric, from VT1 and LT1 to critical speed/power. It involves both resting lung function and active lung function, and employs CPET insight to these metrics. It is the ultimate “what is my bottleneck?” test. This test involves 45-60min of effort while gathering VO2 information and blood samples. This test does NOT evaluate VO2max.

    This test costs $295.
